Bug Hunt

Whilst playing outside the children were looking for bugs that they had seen the day before
'Keira, where have all the bugs gone?'
(Also during a discussion at parents evening a parent expressed concern that her child had started to hurt bugs at home)

INTENT:  
UTW: The world - show care and concern for living things and the environment 

IMPLEMENTATION : Set up a bug hunt. Print off a bug hunt for children to tick off when they have found a bug, hide bugs around the garden. Look for real bugs too. Have discussions about caring for living things. 

IMPACT: 
PSED: Making relationships- the children worked together to find all the bugs.
C&L: Speaking - there were some lovely conversations taking place during the bug hunt
UTW: The world - the children talked about where the bugs live, what they eat, overall showing care and concern for living things. 
MATHS: Numbers - the children used number names during this activity ie 'i've found 3 bugs' 'i only need to find 1 more bug' 
PHYSICAL: Moving and handling - Staff observed children using preferred hand to use their pencil
