School Readiness Assessment

Dear Parents,

This document is the 'school readiness' assessment which is carried out on children going to school each academic year.

We assess the children in the Autumn Term to identify next steps for key workers to focus on, this is then repeated in the Summer Term to measure the children's progress. The information gained is shared with the child's reception teacher and forms part of the transition to school.

As the nursery has been closed for the past 12 weeks, some children may not have been practicing these essential skills in preparation for school life. We are asking you to use this document and continue to encourage the development of these targets, which were agreed collectively between Blackburn with Darwen Early Years providers and local schools. This will help with the transition from nursery to school for your child.

Thank you

Stay Safe

Tracy

Video of our preperations to open

This video was made in preparation for opening on Monday, although our plans did not work out as expected. Watching the video with your children will give you a sneaky peak at the changes to nursery and the measures in place for when it is safe to return.
Hopefully see you soon

Important Update from Blackburn with Darwen

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR SCHOOLS, PRE-SCHOOLS AND NURSERIES:

Blackburn with Darwen’s Director of Public Health has advised schools, pre-schools and nurseries to delay their wider opening until at least 22 June in response to the regional rise in the Covid infection rate – known as the R rate.

After careful consideration, head teachers were advised last night to delay opening for all year groups for at least two further weeks.

Director of Public Health, Professor Dominic Harrison, said:

“This revised guidance is a direct result of information released on Friday afternoon by Public Health England and central government which estimates the R value is now above the critical value of 1 for the North West.”

He added:

“Our local approach has been to be cautious, making safe and sensible decisions.

“This delay will allow us to continue to review all of the evidence made available to us in the next two weeks and to seek to be more assured that the rate of infection is reducing and R is firmly below 1.

“ I will continue to monitor what is a fast-evolving situation very closely.

“I am seeking further clarity from Public Health England and central government and will keep my advice to schools under constant review.”

Councillor Julie Gunn, the Council’s Executive Member for Children and Education, added:

“Children and young people have been absolutely amazing in how they are dealing with the uncertainty that this pandemic has brought from the very beginning.

“We know this may be a disappointment to children who are looking forward to going back to school, and to their parents who will need to explain this to them, but we want to say to children that we need to make sure that you and your teachers are happy and healthy when you are at school.”

All settings continue to remain open for vulnerable children and the children of key workers as they have been since the start of the national lockdown.

Schools will be contacting parents directly with full updates

Important Update... Please read

Dear Parents/Carers,

It is with a heavy heart that we write to you this morning. We were incredibly happy and excited to start the process of inviting more children back from Monday. The staff have worked incredibly hard to prepare the nursery. However this morning I received an email stating the following:

The Director of Public Health has advised all schools in Blackburn with Darwen to delay their wider opening until at least 22 June in response to the regional rise in the R rate. Therefore, we unfortunately will not be starting our phased opening from Monday 8th June as planned.

We will be moving the start date back again and will not be opening on Monday

For those children who were returning and families who had prepared them, we can only apologise but as you know the safety of our community and children comes first and we always follow the advice of public health.

We will keep.you posted via texts, blog and the App and hope to see you soon.
