Ice cream making

The children were pretending to make and sell ice cream outside.

Nafeesah asked the children if they would like to make some ice creams, they decided to make them in the creative area. Nafeesah's intent was 'Maths shape, space and measure' as this was a next step for some of the children.

Development matters: Uses positional language. •Shows interest in shape by sustained construction activity or by talking about shapes or arrangements. •Shows interest in shapes in the environment. •Uses shapes appropriately for tasks. •Beginning to talk about the shapes of everyday objects, e.g. ‘round’ and ‘tall’.

There's a shark in the park

This is the our favourite story.

Emma read the story to the children using props, she then set up a story station with props from the story.

Emma observed the children using the props and heard them use some language from the story. This led to the children singing and dancing to Baby Shark.

If you would like to purchase this book it is available on amazon for £5.94

Enjoying books and reading stories from a very early age is crucial in the development of children. It helps with their ability to understand words, use their imagination and develop their speech, as well as being something they really enjoy.

Please help rescue the dinosaurs

The dinosaurs have got themselves in a tangle!!! Can you set them free?
EYP set up an activity to develop children's scissor control skills

Robots

The children were making robots with duplo during continuous. provision.

EYP brought in some boxes to make a large robot, her intent was to extend children's speech and language.

The children worked together to make the robot with a little help from Emma. Emma observed a child use a 4 word sentence during the activity. When the robot was complete *** showed satisfaction in his achievement by jumping up and down saying 'it's a robot'.

Would you like a picnic?

Child Led Activity

Two of the children initiated a role play activity, they set up a picnic. The EYP observed the children work together, share ideas, invite other children to join in, use their imagination and heard some lovely language.

Whilst they were having a picnic there was a fire !!!!!! (pretend)

Helen got all the fire fighter equipment out (but forgot to take photos!!!)

Building up our finger muscles

What shall we make?

During continuous provision the children made food to feed the babies....... conversations took place about types of foods the babies liked.

Using a next step in learning Susan set up a 'Cooking Station' made up of carrots, oats, flour, rice crispies, knives, bowls. The intent was to encourage turn taking.

 Impact

PSED- managing feelings and behaviour : some children required a little support with turn taking
Physical - Moving and handling: using 1 handle tools
Maths - beginning to use language of size
Understanding the world- Notices detailed features of objects - talked about the life of an egg
Critical thinking : some children chose to make pizza - they requested ingredients
Active learning: persist when a challenge occurs
