What are these growing on the bushes?

The children went for a walk and noticed blackberries growing on the bushes.
We talked about what we could make with the blackberries, it was agreed to make blackberry flapjacks. Yum yum
(Helen forgot to take a photo of the baking activity but you all got to see them and hopefully taste them)

Is it magnetic?

We have been looking at things that are magnetic and things that are not magnetic

We had a dish for the magnetic objects and a dish for the non magnetic objects. The children had to work together to split the objects into the correct dish.

Welcome to the car wash....

Learning Journeys

Learning Journey’s are a celebration of your child’s achievements and interests during their time at St Mary’s Nursery through observations and photographs.
In a world of increasing technology and busy lives, many parents appear to prefer the flexibility of accessing information about their child on a device at their convenience. (Via email)
The ‘2simple parent share’ has been a huge success. When we first introduced ‘parent share’ we were sending observations every 2-4 weeks.
After listening to feedback from parents we are now emailing observations weekly but please remember to bear in mind the following:
-The number of observations depend on how many sessions your child attends each week.
-Absences from nursery will affect the amount of observations your child will have.
-Key workers may not see your child complete some tasks; therefore your contributions/observations are invaluable.
An upfront payment of £3.00 is required if you would like a hard copy (in black and white) of your child’s learning journal (We will also send it electronically).
Your child’s keyworker will print off the observations termly only when payment has been received.

Another positive to ‘parent share’ is you can send images and comments/observations of your child.  These contribute to our record of your child’s developmental achievements.
Examples of what you can send are:
·        Your child reaching a milestone – eg walking
·        A family day out -  eg trip to the park
·        A daily routine – eg story before bed
·        A special event – eg family wedding
·        Your child’s special interests – eg favourite song/game/cartoon character

Please speak to Lisa, Steph or Adeema if you are having trouble accessing your child’s observations.

What a different environment from 2015 to 2019.....

Research shows that busy, bright walls and colourful resources can overstimulate children and can cause;
Crankiness
Tiredness
Upset
Anger
Miscommunication

Of course stimulation is key to developing little brains and building connections that help children learn, BUT bright, busy and plastic resources are not as beneficial as open ended resources and equipment made from natural materials.
This triggered a review of our nursery equipment and resources and further research into alternative approaches to the early year’s environment.......
