Practicing our cutting skills....

We have been having lots of discussions about Christmas. The children have been making letters to Father Christmas.

Staff have been observing the following:

• Show control in holding and using mark making tools 
• May be beginning to show preference for dominant hand
• Beginning to use three fingers (tripod grip) to hold writing tools 
• Holds pencil between thumb and two fingers, no longer using whole-hand grasp
• Holds pencil near point between first two fingers and thumb and uses it with good control 
• Uses one handed tools and equipment, eg make snips in paper with child scissors
• Can copy some letters eg letters from their name
• Uses simple tools to effect changes to materials
• Distinguishes between the different marks they make
• Sometimes gives meaning to marks as they draw
