World Book Day

Thursday 1st March 2018

Thursday 1st March is World Book Day, we will be celebrating at Nursery by reading stories and wearing our favorite book character costumes.
Parents- you are welcome to come into Nursery to share books with the children.

The benefits of reading together:
Reigniting a love of sharing stories to promote wellbeing for everyone
Reading to your child on a daily basis throughout childhood is one of the most important factors
in raising a reader for life, and creating a family reading habit enriches child-parent bonds.

‘She is very kind and is always good at sharing’

‘She has very good manners’

‘He can share his toys with his friends and cousins; he also takes their feelings and emotions into consideration’

Did you know.......

Grapes are a chocking hazard

Grapes are the third most common cause of death among children who die in food-related choking incidents, and doctors say it is a lack of awareness that could be leaving young children at risk.

The size and shape of grapes means that they can completely plug children’s airways, with the tight seal produced by fruit’s smooth, flexible surface making them tricky to shift with first aid manoeuvres.

It is advised that grapes should be chopped in half (length ways) and ideally quartered before being given to young children.

Healthy Message

Brush your teeth twice a day....

We are sending home a tooth brushing chart for your child to complete over the period of a week. Once your chart is complete return it to nursery and a certificate will be presented to your child. This will help your child get into a good routine of brushing their teeth twice a day.

Advice around tooth brushing....

A smear of toothpaste containing 1000 parts per million (ppm) fluoride should be used for children under 3 years. Do not reapply if paste is swallowed.

A pea sized amount of toothpaste containing 1350-1500 parts per million (ppm) fluoride should be used for children aged over 3 years. Do not reapply if paste is swallowed.

Toothpaste Fluoride toothpaste has been proven to prevent decay.
A good all round total family toothpaste is fine and available from supermarkets and chemists. It is not necessary to use a specialist children’s toothpaste.
