Picnic in the forest.....
This activity was initiated by the children. They made a teddy bears picnic in the role play area. This led to conversations about where the children had been for a picnic, one child said they had been to to park. Helen asked if the children would like to go for a real picnic in the forest.
It was agreed between Helen and the children that they would make their own cheese wraps (children's choice of food) we also took some cupcakes as a treat :)
Intent
- Encourage children to talk about their own home and community life, and to find out about other children’s experiences.
Impact
-Health and Self Care - We all washed our hands before making our picnic.
-Understanding the world - We talked about the importance of looking after the environment by taking all our litter back to nursery to put in the bin.
- Understanding the world- we talked about their own experience of having a picnic with our families.
- Physical - Whilst at the forest we explored all the equipment, there was lots of climbing involved.
- School Readiness - We explored the school grounds and talked about the environment for those children starting in September.
-Democracy - making decisions together.
-Maths - we found some numbers in the environment.
-Personal, social and emotional - It was lovely to see the older children helping the younger children on the equipment and with recognising numbers in the environment.
