Education Inspection Framework - OFSTED

In preparation for the new 'Education Inspection Framework' set to be introduced by OFSTED in September 2019, we have reviewed the recording and documentation of our 'Teaching and Learning' Programme. The new framework states 'Paperwork should not be burdensome for Early Years Practitioners'.
We have researched alternative teaching  approaches and have decided to trial 'In the Moment Planning' and 'Personalised Planning' as Ofsted inspectors will observe adult:child interactions rather than wanting to see reams and reams of paperwork.
Every child will receive extensions to learning 'In the moment' as and when they arise. These will be evident in your child's Learning Journey, Pre school profile and the 'Nursery life week by week' floor book.

If you would like further information about these exciting changes please speak to a member of staff.

In the moment planning

Today 2 children showed great interest in the Rainbow fish story and 3 other children were pretending to 'go fishing' in the water tray.
1. Staff read the story
2. the children drew and created their own rainbow fish in the creative area
3. we went to look at the fish in the Chidren's Centre
This is displayed on a display in the book corner.

Lots of development matters and characteristics of effective learning were covered during these activities. (see our 'Nursery life week by week' book)

Kate Hollern our Local MP comes for afternoon tea on World Book Day

"St Mary's Nursery @ Wensley Fold Children's Centre invited Kate Hollern (MP) to their World Book Day Tea Party. Kate enjoyed afternoon tea with the children and staff; then took part in the story session of Little Red Riding Hood.

World book day is an important date in our calendar as it highlights the importance of  reading stories/books to children and babies. Staff focus on passing this message onto the parents, they explain how it benefits children's development and instills a love of books. Our hope is that the parents within the community who use the nursery take the advice on board  and make reading stories a part of their daily routine, therefore improving the outcomes for the future generations of Blackburn"
