Preparing for Pre School

PREPARING FOR PRE-SCHOOL

 Please provide proof of your child’s date of birth for funding purposes.

·       No nappies - must be toilet trained.

·       Earrings are not to be worn for health and safety reasons.

·       We ask for £1 per week which enables us to buy healthy snacks and provisions, this is payable in the first week of each term.

·       Provide a pump bag with spare clothes.

·       Bring in some wellies to stay at Nursery.

·       Sensible clothes and shoes - outdoor all weathers (children’s choice).

·       If someone else is collecting your child from Nursery you must inform us.  We will not let them go otherwise!

·      Contact Nursery if absent.

·       Thursday is PE day. Please make sure tights are not worn as the children need to be able take off their socks and shoes.

·      All children have a pigeon hole, please check this daily.

·       Check the dinner board, staff will write on the names of children who have not eaten their dinner or eaten less than half.

·      On the door is a ‘Children’s interests’ sheet. Please take some time to write on your child’s interests. Staff will ensure these interests are incorporated into the planning.

·       Wow moments – please take a ‘Wow moment’ sheet - We want you to let us know when your child does something that makes you say “wow”. You can do this by completing one of the “Wow Moments” sheet and handing it to your child’s key worker.

Wow moments

We are always looking for ways to involve Parents and Carers in the completion of the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile which is the document we keep on the progress that your child is making during their time with us.
Often children say or do things that make us say “wow”, it might be by sharing a toy with another child without being prompted to do so, using the potty for the first time, being able to catch a ball,  pointing out a number that they recognise or drawing and explaining a brilliant picture.
We want you as Parents and Carers to let us know when your child does something that makes you say “wow”. You can do this by completing one of the “Wow Moments” sheet and handing it to your child’s key worker.

Please ensure that the notes are dated and try to include exactly what your child said/did so we know where best to use the evidence. We can’t wait to read the “wow” moments you have with your child! The wow moment sheets will be handed out this week, you can always ask for more if you have lots of wow moments.

Bring your bike to nursery

The children brought their bikes and scooters into nursery.

The children used their bikes and scooters outside in the garden and also did good sharing and turn taking.   

                             

School Readiness

Pre School have been getting 'school ready' this term. You can help at home by encouraging your child to...

• Put their own coat on
• Go to the toilet by them self and washing their hands
• Confidently saying goodbye when being dropped off at nursery or with an adult
• Make friends and happily talk to other children and adults
• Share and take turns in a group
• Sit and listen for a short while
• Answer simple questions about a story 
• Tidy up after them self and look after their things
• Speaking about their wants, needs and feelings. 
• Follow simple instructions
• Retell past events (something that has happened to them) 
• Feed them self and enjoy a healthy range of foods
• Dress and undress them self as well as putting on and taking off their shoes
• Follow rules at home
• Share lots of stories and sing rhymes
• Hold a pencil and make marks

We got all the ingredients ready to make some yummy biscuits.....

We added some butter......

and then some sugar......

Then we helped Rukhsar roll the dough out with the rolling pin and used a butterfly shaped cutter to cut out the biscuit...

Summer berries!!

                                                       

   The children went on walk to find some summer berries. They showed great interest in picking them from the branches and placed them in a container ready to bring back to nursery.

As part of St. Marys Values, the children were given choices on what they would like to do with the collected berries. They all chose to make some yummy healthy berry flapjacks.

 Staff can support the decisions that children make and provide activities that involve turn-taking, sharing and collaboration. Children should be given opportunities to develop enquiring minds in an atmosphere where questions are valued.
